‘Spanish Banks Northwest 3’ is, I think, one of Sam’s most satisfying paintings. The color and texture of the surf, mountains and sky feel, somehow, well… perfect! And yet, the true perfection of this work is not to be realized until it’s viewed together with it with its other two companion pieces, SBN 1 & 2 (making up the Spanish Banks Northwest ‘triptych’). One can hardly imagine any three paintings more pleasing together, in harmony with each other.
